Music Therapy
Music therapy is a highly individualized, evidence-based service that uses music to support a wide range of therapeutic goals. It is appropriate for individuals of all ages and diagnoses, and can take place in a variety of settings.
Using interventions including songwriting, lyric analysis, improvisation, and receptive methods, music therapy can support growth in a variety of contexts. Because of it's versatility, it can benefit individuals diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, trauma, and neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s.
We have extensive experience with extreme cases and work with individuals who have stumped other professionals or been told they can’t understand or will never speak.
Goals addressed in sessions may include improving emotional expression, improving motor skills, memory, increasing communication skills, creating and learning to use coping strategies, and processing trauma or grief. We specialize in sensory processing challenges, using neuro- and trauma-informed strategies to help generalize skills learned in the therapy setting to reduce stress in the home, improve daily routines, alleviate traumatic symptoms, and decrease behavioral concerns.
